How to enable "Write Script Without Sending to patient" button?

Add a default button that writes prescriptions without immediately sending them to patients, while keeping email and SMS options available below.

Updated over a month ago

Organisation admins can enable a "Write Script Without Sending" button that appears above the standard delivery options (email, SMS, print).

When prescribers click this button, the prescription is created through ERX but not sent to the patient. Prescribers can still choose to email or SMS the script to the patient later using the options below.

Who is this for?

This setting is useful if your workflow requires a delay between writing and sending prescriptions. Common scenarios include:

  • Telehealth psychiatry clinics – A doctor writes the prescription but their admin staff send prescriptions only after payment is made

  • Pharmacy-direct workflows – Scripts are sent directly to the patient's preferred pharmacy instead of to the patient

  • Review-before-send processes – Prescriptions require administrative review or approval before delivery

How to enable it?

⚠️ You must be an organisation Admin to turn this on. If you are not, reach out to an admin for assistance.

  1. Head to your Edit Organisation Settings Tab, Click Settings > Organisation > Edit (or the above button)

  2. Scroll to the Prescribe Don't Send Section at the bottom of the page and click the Toggle to turn it on.

  3. You will see a Prescribe Don't Send is enabled banner underneath if successful.

  4. The default button copy is Write Rx. You have the option to add your own copy in the Button Text Field (this is not mandatory). Enter your preferred copy and click save changes.

  5. You will see a success message in the top right of the screen if successful.

  6. On the prescription screen the custom button will display at the top of the prescribing options. Prescribers may still Email or SMS it to their patient using the standard buttons below.
